With summer less than two months away, the concept of relaxing in your backyard, enjoying a good book and a glass of wine or beer seems like the ideal way to spend a balmy day. Imagine kicking back on a superbly-curved no nail day bed and listening to the calming sounds of a nearby water feature. Sounds magical, doesn’t it? Well, this is reality for a family in the outskirts of Melbourne who had their cottage-style backyard transformed into a modern, low-maintenance entertaining area.
Here are just a few images depicting the stages of this amazing backyard renovation…
These are some “before” snapshots and, as you can see, the backyard was very neat and tidy. In fact, the grassy patches, pavers and fruit bushes were already rather eye-catching. However, the owner was looking for something more contemporary and virtually fuss-free. Enter Merbau No Nail Decking!
The merbau timber for this project was supplied by No Nail Decking and the decking was built by the talented lads at Deckadence Pty Ltd. Over a few weeks (and in between freakish winds and rain), the new no nail decking area was laid using 140mm merbau. The gorgeous day bed, which is a feature of the new outdoor entertaining area, was created with 70mm no nail merbau and vertical planters were built either side, ready for some colourful flowers.
Tada! What a specutalular final result! The al fresco area, which is located in the corner, is decorated with dressed Cypress Pine beams and the bench seating below is made from 70mm no nail merbau. Bamboo screening has been strategically placed in different parts of the backyard – adding both character and privacy. The water feature adds some ‘zen’ next to the ultra-comfortable day bed. Some outdoor furnishings will complete the look and then this house is ready for some serious summer entertaining!
